I’m sure we all have little projects that somehow consistently get pushed to the bottom of our “to do” lists. I have two such projects: 1) The curtains separating my bedroom from my closet; and 2) my jumbled bookcase.
Curtains: A year ago I came across the perfect drapes to hang in front of my bedroom closet as we had removed the faulty sliding doors. I needed several sets and since my local Bed, Bath and Beyond didn’t have enough in stock I bought a few online. The curtains sat in their plastic packaging for a few weeks until I finally released them and machine washed them. Then ironed them. Then spent a good twenty-five minutes unscrewing the curtain finials and sliding each curtain onto the rod. Stepped back and noticed that one curtain was longer than all the others by a significant 2-3 inches. Sigh. Fortunately, the left side of the “curtain door” was hidden by my nightstand. Unfortunately, the longer curtain was on the very visible right side!!
I was sweaty and tired and simply promised myself I’d switch out the curtains the next day. Yeah, right.
Bookcase: I have a lovely two-door bookcase built by my cabinetmaker son. As I love reading, buying, and sharing books the bookcase is nearly six-feet tall with lots of shelving. Just beautiful. Well, beautiful until I start loading it with library-sale books, Hubby’s books, and “I know I read this but I might just want to read it again” books. What a mess! But I was waiting until I had time to carefully go through it all, organize by genre, and hesitantly start a pile of give-aways. Yeah, right (again)!
The other day, graced by a small bout of energy and a no-nonsense attitude I decided enough. I tackled the tasks and timed the projects because I was curious how much time was actually required: Curtain at 8 minutes; and bookcase at 25 minutes. Sigh. Lesson learned. Just do it already!
