I was overtaken by crafts the last few months so I’m just getting back to this blog. This is what simplicity is for me: prioritizing daily rather than stressing in an attempt to check everything off my list. I found the most peace during the months of November and December simply sitting in my craft/guest/storage room painting, cutting, gluing, etc. My ipad kept me busy with movies and sitcoms. It was simply delightful. Yes, I ignored some chores and kept a few late nights but I had fun and was rewarded with compliments and a little extra cash in my pockets! Below are some of my items. I now have a FaceBook page: The Creative Tightwad (facebook.com/CreativeTightwad). Please check it out and let me know what you think.
I’ve recently added Valentine items:
Okay, let’s talk about saving money: NOW (well actually days after the holidays, sorry) is the time to look for deals. When you enter your favorite drugstore or other retail store after any holiday head straight to clearance. I’ve bought holiday candy, Halloween make-up kits for kids, New Year Eve party hats (.50 ea.), beautiful Valentine items, and sweet stuffed animals (Easter clearance) for a fraction of their retail cost. Think “outside the holiday”. I found the stuffed animals were perfect additions to a baby shower gift. Today I bought this Star Wars candy dispenser at CVS. It was originally 14.99 and was on sale for 50% off. I had a 3.00 CVS CashBack coupon so I got it for $4.50. My son and grandson are HUGE Star Wars fans so this will be tucked away for a birthday or other occasion.
A few days after Christmas I scored a great sale on items I can use in my crafting. Check these out:
I bought the bells and stickers from the Dollar Tree’s clearance bins for .50 each. Those bells will be on everything I make for Christmas 2017!!! The stickers are great for cards and ornaments. My haul at Target is even more impressive (to me, anyway): each item was $1.50 and I love, love, love everything. I bought two packages of the garland (love that buffalo plaid!) and used them right away. The paper fans are not too Christmasy so I can use them for other events and that string gives me countless options. I am one happy lady.
So, it’s 2017. New Year, Same Me! I’ll still be looking for ways to save money and spending time creating fun “stuff”. Life really is good when you find happiness in the simple things. I was reminded recently of the time my husband and I took a trip through a quaint little town in Massachusetts. The scenery was so peaceful and the neighborhoods seemed so idyllic. We were smitten with the simplicity of it all and the “feel good” vibe we felt. A few days later we drove through our own town and had to laugh. Here’s some photos of my town:
